On a very curvy Highway 94, about 40 miles from San Diego, is Potrero County Park. Potrero was the staging area for the RV caravan to Baja, as it is less than 5 miles from the border crossing at Tecate, Mexico.

The campground is lovely, with lots of trees and a nature trail. But watch out for mountain lions!

Electricity and water hookups are $27 per night; there are no individual sewer hook ups, but there is a dump station at the entrance/exit of the park. Showers cost $.25 for four minutes but are good and hot. Firewood is $5 a bundle, and they will deliver it to your campsite.

The biggest draw to Potrero is its proximity to Tecate. If you plan to camp there for camping’s sake, be aware there are no charming towns or restaurants nearby.
