If you are visiting Asheville, North Carolina to see the Biltmore Estate, you can’t get much more convenient than Rutledge Lake RV Park. It is situated on a small lake behind a commercial shopping area on the outskirts of Asheville. The estate is just a couple of exits away. It takes about 20 minutes to drive into downtown Asheville from Rutledge Lake.
Rutledge Lake takes Passport America, but only without reservations. My back in spot with 50 amp service and full hookups was $40 per night. No great bargain, but hey, this is Asheville.
There is fishing on the lake, and paddleboats. On Sunday the owner’s son drove around the park in a little choo-choo train to entertain the children, although we didn’t see any kids.
Facilities include a community room, pool, laundry room, and office with gift shop. They have cable, and it works! A rarity nowadays. There is no dog park. Sites are gravel and fairly level. They are doing quite a bit of construction work across a small bridge, opening up more water view sites. Currently sites 4 through 11 have direct water views, but the hookups are set up for backing in.
My only complaint about the park was the way in which they accepted mail on behalf of the residents. The owners of the park live in a large house on the road. All mail is delivered to their house, and they are not in the habit of bringing it down to the office. On two occasions my friend and I had to drive to their house and look around on their porch and deck area for our deliveries.
Tammy’s Tip: Don’t forget to return the entry/exit card, or you will be charged $20!
