Camping Proverbs

A cooler full of steaks is rarely accompanied by an operational propane canister.

For forgotten essentials, the price of thrice is willingly paid at the Camp Store.

“Getting away from it all” requires more tidying, cooking and cleaning than at home.

Do not be dismayed by the absence of a dumpster in your loop, for it is smelly and attracts critters.

“Campsite Voice” is a phrase unfamiliar to adjacent campers.

Consider when opening windows: The warmer the evening, the smokier the campfires.

Acceptance is the realization that you will never make it to a Ranger Talk, no matter how fascinating the subject matter.

A generator is an instant ice-breaker.

At the campsite next door, quiet hours begin when the liquor runs out.

The bigger the neighboring dog, the less likely the leash. The smaller the neighboring dog, the more likely the barking.

When camped next to the bathrooms, you will meet fellow campers as they traipse through your site.

A cold and short camp shower requires tokens useless elsewhere.

It is not the lack of a signal, but the presence of one, that is “roughing it.”

Skip souvenirs; pine pitch is free and lasts forever.

Breaking camp brings rain clouds, no matter the forecast.

Patience is honed in line at the campground dump station on Sunday.
